Pg 7-8: Assurance of Salvation

Hello everyone.  Getting a late start for the lesson this week, but I know you're all over achievers so it won't be a problem!  Last week we finished the preliminary studies; this week we begin "Study 1: Assurance of Salvation".  Complete the two sections on pgs 7-8 called, "What is meant by assurance," and "Why do I need assurance of salvation?"  Love, Brad

Some say Bible-believing Christians are arrogant for saying they “know” they are going to heaven. It is not arrogance if you know something is true and you hold to it. God promises assurance – as we read this week, God is very clear in His Word. If God is powerful enough to conquer death for us through salvation, then He is powerful enough to keep us. Accepting this assurance is an affirmation of God’s power over death, His power over all. People that question if salvation is eternal are basically telling God that He is a liar, because promises eternal salvation. Why would a perfect, sinless Christ hang of a tree for anything other securing eternity?

I am so thankful I know, without a shadow of doubt, I’m heaven bound. Not because of anything I did (I’m so broken), but because I find joy and security in the eternal salvation offered by Christ. There is no need to wander through life always questioning and wondering. Christ gives His children security in knowing.

I Corinthians 15:55-58
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

It's amazing how the Lord works. Here, I've been pushing last week's response to the next day, then the next, and have realized I am quickly getting behind. Then out of the blue I get an opportunity to share with someone the importance of the assurance of salvation.

It is so vital that we as saved, born-again, Christians are confident in our salvation - in the price that was paid for all of us through Jesus Christ. Many people are still so focused on what they can "do" and simply overlook what has been "done" to attain salvation. We MUST realize that the only thing we can do to attain Heaven and the free gift of salvation is to receive Christ, the free gift.

I love what the book has to say on the top of page 8, F. "Assurance enables us to effectively serve the Lord by telling others about Jesus." Without this assurance/ability, we wouldn't be able to fulfill the Great Commission. "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15
